Have you ever tried ceviche? If you love fish and seafood, this Latin American dish is a must for you. Popular along the coast of Central and South America, this dish is basically fresh raw fish, marinated in spices and cooked in lime juice.  If you have concerns about raw fish, you may try a basic shrimp ceviche.

In Ecuador, the shrimp ceviche is made with lime juice, salt, tomatoe sauce and the juice provided by the cooked shrimp itself. It is served in a bowl with fried green plantain chunks called patacones, or thinly sliced plantain chips called chifles. Well cooked Sea bass (corvina), octopus, and crab ceviches are also common in Ecuador. In all ceviches, lime juice and salt are ubiquitous ingredients.

The health benefits of eating seafood are widely known, since it's an excellent source of protein, with lots of minerals and vitamins and low fat content. Ceviche offers a healthy alternative and it's a gastronomic experience that will surprise you. In South America, ceviche is known as an aphrodisiac and hangover cure.
